Aura_02

EGG ecosystem

Aura_2 includes an EEG cap (which collects data) and a biosensing board (which processes it) to read brain signals. These signals can be used to develop algorithms and patterns for research and exploration.

We designed a user-friendly physical interface that feels familiar to researchers and enthusiasts. The bio-sensing board integrates a modular system allowing users to adapt it to different scenarios and body parts.

Aura 02 is an ecosystem composed of two main devices: the EEG Cap, which captures data, and the Mainboard, where the data is read, processed, and transmitted to the digital interface (UI).

Challenge

One of the biggest challenges was designing a system that allowed peripherals to be attached or removed to the main module, where readings are taken, so it could be adapted to different academic spaces and laboratories. This flexibility would enable its use on the body or as a stationary device on surfaces for later use. Additionally, there was a very specific requirement to use the existing electronics without modifications while ensuring ease of maintenance and manufacturing.

The mainboard collects and processes all the data from the cap and its electrodes. It is designed for use in both stationary and active scenarios.

The gap between the top and bottom case is designed to allow multiple peripherals to slide in and out. Also, it visually reduces the thickness of the device, making it look lighter.

One of the opportunities we identified was creating a diagram language that clearly communicates the use and setting up of every component, making the process easier for the user. It is important to mention that the Aura 02 ecosystem is not limited to experts but is also accessible to entry technologists and developers.

The exploration covered a wide range of functionalities, configurations, materials, and form factors that we carefully crafted in works-like and looks-like models. This allowed us to test and validate our concepts with our target users.

Outcome

The result is a functional and user-friendly ecosystem that can be used by both experts and enthusiasts alike. Additionally, the careful design of each component ensures durability and overall longevity. It is also important to mention that the ability to integrate peripherals into the mainboard allows users to modify the system, adapting it to their specific needs.
